One of the biggest blessings our family has received is lil man’s diagnosis. Of course we didn’t wish this for our son. The diagnosis gives us answers we were so desperately searching for. With the diagnosis we could quit trying to fit our son (square peg) into a typical 3 year old mold (round hole).
Lil man is so incredibly bright, learning his alphabet by age 2, counting 1-20, shapes and colors came to him very easy, etc. But he could not communicate with the world around him. It breaks our hearts to see him struggle. Not being able to tell us when he needs something to eat or drink, ask if he could go outside and play, request a hug and kiss.
Lucky for us, I am able to be home with lil man so I have learned what different sounds mean and we have developed our own way of communicating. Not always effective but for the most part it works. With our ASD diagnosis we can see a light. A future for our son that is going to give him the tools he needs to learn how to communicate with the world around him. Peers that he can relate to. A support system giving us tools to be better parents.
It is a true blessing!
